Keeping your kids entertained during lockdown

This is a collaborative post

You may be pretty good at keeping your kids entertained during the weekends, but we’re in completely different circumstances now. With the schools closed, parents up and down the country are figuring out that they need to entertain their little ones for much longer, and this can, of course, be challenging, especially when it’s possible that you also have to complete all your work duties from home at the same time. In this blog, we’re going to take a look at a few useful ideas that’ll ensure that they don’t become too restless.

Arts and Crafts Supplies

Children are naturally creative and curious, so why not direct that side of them into something positive? If you can get arts and crafts supplies, then your kids will be able to spend many hours putting their creative talents to work. It’s a way to keep them from using their energy for more destructive goals! Since the lockdown happened, there have been many suggestions thrown out there as to what arts and crafts kids (and adults) can do. Perhaps the best suggestions come from some of the country’s leading artists, who have created an “Art Is Where The Home Is” activity pack for kids to do in the house. Check it out!

Big Show Productions

As well as using their creative talents to produce beautiful works of art, you may also want to look at letting your children show off their theatrical talents, too. Putting on a show is a big deal to kids, and you’ll find that they become highly engaged with the activity, for hours on end. This is especially recommended when you need a little bit of time to get your work done. Once they’re ready, you’ll be able to sit down as a family and watch what they’ve come up with; so in many ways, this activity will be a source of entertainment for you, too. And who knows: you might just find that you’ve got a budding talent in the family.

Smartphone Games and Consoles

We’re lucky in that we live in today’s world, and not any other period in history. Thanks to technology, it’s so much easier to stay entertained, which is a godsend during a pandemic. There are many excellent games that can help to keep your kids entertained and having fun during the lockdown. Download games onto your smartphone for them to play, or you can buy a refurbished phone from The Big Phone Store if you need your mobile throughout the day. Studies have shown that certain smartphone games can aid mental development, too, so it may do more for them than just entertain. If you’ve been considering buying a video games console for the family, then now could be a great time: it’ll offer many hours of entertainment for the whole family.

Classic Board Games

As well as technological games, it’s also worth looking at investing in some old school fun options too, chiefly board games. There are many fun family options that will be great to have during the lockdown and beyond. Board games offer something that nothing else can. They’re a lot of fun, but they also function to bring us together as a family, providing we can all avoid arguments! As such, it’s best to avoid those family board games that are most likely to cause fights….

What’s in the Garden?

You won’t be able to go on too many adventures into the outdoors for a while, but who says you need to anyway? If you have a garden, then get exploring there instead. You might find that your outdoor space is a magnet for local wildlife. Or you could set up your own vegetable patch, which the kids can look after.

Daily Exercise

Finally, be sure to include a bit of exercise in your family’s day. There are many fun activities you can do in the house. It’ll keep them fit, having fun, and most importantly, will tire them out!

Conclusion

We don’t know for sure how long this pandemic is going to last for, so it’s best to stock up on supplies and activities as soon as possible. This will help prevent you and your children from going too stir-crazy in the house. We’re all having to do the best that we can in these trying times, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t also be fun from time to time. Incorporate the suggestions we’ve outlined above, and you’ll find that it’s much easier to handle being at home all day.
