We have big been fans of Spinmaster’s Hatchimals CollEGGtibles since series 1 first arrived in toy shops.
Hatchimals CollEGGtibles have just launched season 5, Mermal Magic, and we were really excited to receive some for review.
Series 5 of Hatchimals CollEGGtibles are available as single blind bags, but you can also buy bigger packs containing more eggs.
What is different about Hatchimals CollEGGtibles season 5?
Unlike previous seasons which came in eggs with different coloured speckles, there are different types and colours of egg.
All the Mermals, Underwater Friends and Mermal Twins (similar to Hatchimals CollEGGtibles series 3) come inside glittery, metallic blue mermaid shell-eggs. As usual, some are common, others rare or ultra rare – but you won’t know until you open up the egg!
There are also special edition eggs to collect which come in teal (Sunshine Surf), gold (Mischief Marsh) and purple (Racing River) sparkly eggs, and limited edition ‘Blissful Bay’ pink eggs and bronze eggs which come in a six-pack (reviewed below).
As well as being totally new half-aquatic characters, the Hatchimals CollEGGtibles Mermals have cute little fish tails which change colour when you put them into warm water!
There are eight pairs of Mermal twins to collect too.
The eggs are totally different to previous series – they are metallic with shell-like ridges on them, and are covered in glitter.
Rather than a little egg base, the egg shell comes away so you are left with the back half, which has a flat bottom so you can lay it down like a little boat.
Here is the collector’s map (checklist) for Season 5 Hatchimals CollEGGtibles!
How do you open the Hatchimals CollEGGtibles Season 5 eggs?
As with all the previous Hatchimals CollEGGtibles, you hatch the egg by rubbing on the heat-sensitive hearts until they change colour, although strictly speaking this isn’t mandatory and might take children forever.
Push your thumb through to crack it, and then the synthetic egg shell can be removed from the front half, leaving a base for your little Hatchimals CollEGGtible character to sit inside.
There are over 80 Season 5 CollEGGtibles characters to collect.
We had twelve eggs to open in total. We received:
- One four pack of Hatchimals CollEGGtibles eggs (with one bonus character), RRP £9.99
- One two pack of eggs with a blue nest, RRP £4.99
- A six-pack with shell carry-case, RRP £12.99
Also available are single packs which have a pocket money friendly RRP of £2.99 each. There is also a 12 pack egg carton, with an RRP of £24.99.
So which Season 5 Hatchimals CollEGGtibles did we get?!
Inside our two pack, a rare Blu-loo which changes from dark to light blue in warm water, and a Mer-Walwren.
Inside the four pack, we got a Mer-Macow, three blue eggs and one gold egg.
Inside the three eggs we found a Mer Lynx, an ultra-rare Mer-Deeraloo and a cute little pair of Penguala Mermal Twins.
The gold egg contained a very cute Mischief Puppit from Mischief Marsh.
The Mermals and Underwater Friends all change colour when put in warm water.
Finally, we opened up our six-pack shell of Hatchimals Series 5 Mermal Magic collectibles.
Each glittery character comes hugging a blue stone; if you put them in water, the blue washes off to reveal a coloured gem underneath!
There is also a Hatchimals App which you can get for FREE through the appstore.
You can collect and care for your Hatchimals, play minigames and watch webisodes whilst being subjected to an insanely catchy tune which will infiltrate your brain and probably never leave.
