Playmobil is a toy box staple that has been around for ages (since 1974, in fact) and even more popular than ever. It lasts well; my mother in law still has sets of 1980s Playmobil which the kids love to play with when they visit.
Playmobil playsets are great fun and really get kids’ imaginations active.
We have a few sets ourselves, the most recent addition being the new Aquarium playset which my daughter spied in a toy shop and asked for for her 5th birthday.
I saw the Hidden Temple dinosaur Playmobil playset at Dream Toys and immediately fell in love with. It went straight to the top of my son’s Christmas list (although he doesn’t know this).
We were really lucky to be sent the Hidden Temple with T-Rex Playmobil Playset for review.
The Hidden Temple with T-Rex set, which is for children aged 4 and over, comes with 121 pieces including the temple, big t-rex, three Playmobil explorer characters, dog, plants, lizards, and lots of accessories.
You also get a little UV torch; you need an AAA battery for this.
Older children will enjoy putting the playset together, but my advice if buying as a Christmas present for a younger and more impatient child would be to put some time aside and assemble the main parts before Christmas day.
It took me about half an hour to put together, perhaps a little more (I did it before caffeine, not a great idea).
Although the instructions are comprehensive and fairly easy to follow, some of the pieces are quite fiddly. Children may need an adult to help, especially for the bits that need special tools (these are included) and the stickers.
Once it’s built it it fairly large at almost 14 inches tall, and you’ll probably want somewhere to display it or store it whole rather than take it apart again.
Features of the Hidden Temple with T-Rex Playmobil Playset
As well as all the characters and accessories, the plants and creatures (and of course the huge T-Rex!) the temple building itself has some exciting features!
The portcullis ‘clicks’ up and then will drop when the button at the top is pressed.
There is a platform on a pulley which can be winched up and down to carry treasure up and down onto the observation platform.
The ultraviolet torch will light up secret markings on the inside of the temple.
Some of the accessories (the red crystal eyes, the plant, and the test tube set) are made out of UV-active plastic which means if you light them up with the torch for a while, they will glow in the dark!
A laser gun slots into the top of the temple observation tower. It comes complete with two small cell batteries and if you press the button, it will flash red for 8 seconds.
The observation tower has moveable claws. I’m not entirely sure what they’re for, but they’re fun. There is a great attention to detail, with floodlights, laptops, cameras, and of course a golden idol which probably shouldn’t be stolen because you know how that ends.
The best bit of the set is quite obviously the big, red, toothy T-Rex, who measures over a foot from his nose to the tip of his tail. He has a movable head, arms, legs and jaws and rubberised feet to keep him from slipping.
The whole playset will give little explorers hours and hours of fun.
If you have a dinosaur-mad child they will absolutely love it, and their imagination will run wild with all the stories they can make up.
It’s a fabulous, sturdy set, and with an RRP of £49.99 I don’t think it’s badly priced at all considering the amount of pieces in the kit. I can’t wait to get it out again at Christmas!
You can buy the Hidden Temple with T-Rex Playmobil Playset from national retailers or from Amazon using the link below. If you’re looking for a smaller present or stocking filler, you can buy smaller Playmobil explorer sets which come with different dinosaurs. I have included links below.
We were sent this product for free for the purposes of this Playmobil Hidden Temple with T-Rex review, however I have retained full editorial control and all pictures and words are mine.
