Play-Doh Kitchen Creations Ultimate Swirl Ice Cream Maker review
The newest Play Doh Kitchen Creations is the Ultimate Swirl Ice Cream Maker.
We were sent one as part of the Hasbro Toy Tribe to test out!
The Play Doh Ultimate Swirl Ice Cream Maker is a large Play Doh set.
There are three different ‘machines’; fill the centre up with play doh, crank the blue handle and you can fill two ice cream bowls or cones with Play Doh ice cream. Add a topping by placing it under the left hand machine and pushing the handle down, and then add sprinkles underneath the right hand machine; the sprinkle station. Decorate your creation with shapes made in the moulds on the kit.
Putting it together
You need to put the ice cream maker together firmly by slotting the large white pieces into the base following the instructions, and tapping them in until they are secure.
The blue handle is probably the hardest piece to get on properly, make sure the little metal lugs are properly inserted into the handle.
In the box, there are six small containers of Play Doh in different colours, and two containers of softer ‘Play Doh Plus’ for use inside the topping machine!
There are also ice cream sundae containers which fit underneath the Play Doh ice cream dispensers, plastic cones and three spoons.
There are four ‘creation cards’ included if your children need a recipe to follow.
How to use the Play-Doh Kitchen Creations Ultimate Swirl Ice Cream Maker
Using the double ice cream dispenser takes a bit of practice. Take out and fill the white container with Play Doh compound and then slot it in.
Place the sundae dishes or cones on the blue plate (on top of the squares which slot into the bottom and keep them stable) and then plunge the blue handle slowly but firmly towards the bottom.
The ‘ice cream’ will dispense into the dishes or cones and the blue plate will spin around as it’s dispensed.
For a topping, fill the blue syringe with Play Doh, insert the white plunger and watch it come out at the bottom. This one is a lot easier to do.
Finally, add some sprinkles. Twist off the red cap, fill with Play Doh and replace. Then crank the handle and watch as the sprinkles come out!
This too is a little hard for smaller children so they may need a bit of help.
What did we think?
The suggested age is 3+, however for my son (3 in a few weeks) some bits were a bit tricky for him to use. He then mashed up all the colours, and got bored with using the machine like it was supposed to be used quite quickly and just wanted to fill the containers up and make pancakes.
On the other hand, my daughter (4.5 years old) was able to follow the creation cards to make recipes, use the different parts of the Ice Cream maker and was very proud of her creations!
For this reason I’d recommend this more for children aged 4 or 5+ who will be able to follow instructions, rather than younger ones.
If your children love imaginative play then they will love the Play-Doh Kitchen Creations Ultimate Swirl Ice Cream Maker.
The Play Doh Ice Cream Maker sells for around £30 and is available from good toy shops or from Amazon.
