If you ask my daughter what she wants to be when she grows up, no matter what else we suggest she is adamant she’s going to be a hairdresser (which doesn’t extend to brushing her own hair, unfortunately), so as you can imagine we have a few styling heads in varying states. Honestly, I never realised parenting would involve so much time spent brushing doll’s hair after the kids were in bed, but here we are.
Anyway, she’s also a big fan of Trolls.
When we were offered the DreamWorks Trolls Princess Poppy True Colours Styling Head to review I knew it would be a hit.
From Just Play/Flair, the True Colours Poppy Styling Head is a little bit different to other styling heads that we have tried out.
Because Poppy is a troll, her bright, multicoloured hair sticks right up in the air!
One you get the Poppy Styling Head out of the box, you realise that her hair does not defy gravity but in fact there is a piece of stuffed fabric which sticks up from her head. The hair is then embedded into the fabric.
The Poppy styling head has two types of hair.
Her fringe is made from the more classic shiny, easily stylable doll’s hair, and the rest is fluffy troll’s hair.
Poppy’s troll hair can be clipped and surface brushed but they are not long strands and therefore the whole length of her hair cannot be plaited or styled.
At first I wasn’t really sure what to make of this but after watching my daughter play, I think that this makes the Poppy styling head, which is recommended for children aged 3+, better for younger children like my daughter who, although enthusiastic, might not be so good at keeping longer hair well brushed.
Having had several dolls which have ended up beyond help, my hope is that this Trolls Styling Head might actually last a little longer. My vast collections of trolls from the 80s/90s who have this kind of hair are still going strong so it bodes well.
The True Colours Poppy Styling Head comes with 11 accessories.
These include a comb, four clips and five small plastic hair bands which I’ll be honest aren’t really up to much. It’s definitely worth buying a little pack of hair bands to go along with it, and maybe some butterfly clips so that your child can enjoy their new toy.
You can pop the accessories in the spaces in the base of the styling head. Poppy also has an elasticated flower headband which can be used by your child.
The Trolls Poppy True Colours Styling Head Style Station has an RRP of £24.99 and is available to purchase from good toy shops.
We received the Trolls Poppy True Colours Styling Head by Flair for free for the purposes of this review, but words and pictures are my own.
