Be My Bear are a company selling teddy bears and other soft toys that you can ‘make’ (or at least, stuff) in your own home.

They have a whole range of characters, not just bears. They also sell packs so you can hold your very own Be My Bear building party at home.

My two were offered the chance to review a Be My Bear each and they (predictably) chose a pink unicorn with sparkly hooves (which retails at £10.50) and a duck with very fetching stripy legs (£10).

The Be My Bear kits arrived with:

  • The (somewhat deflated) toys ready to be stuffed
  • A bag of stuffing
  • Make-a-wish star charm (to put inside)
  • A gift bag
  • Birth certificate, invitation and instructions

We also got a passport for each Build My Bear which had an RRP of £4 (currently on sale at £3, here).Be my bear passport

Making your Be My Bear soft toy

The soft toy is very easy to make, and an older child (5+) would probably be able to do it with no help from an adult.

The instructions are simple; take handfuls of stuffing from the bag, tease it apart and place it inside the toy. There was more than enough stuffing – we have loads left over!

Stuffing your Be My Bear Build your own bear (45)

You need to make sure that you stuff the arms and legs properly first. We found that using the handle of a plastic spoon was perfect for getting the stuffing right to the ends of the feet!

Before sealing up the back of the toy, you can insert the star charm. We had a ‘Courage’ and a ‘Best friend’.

The unicorn had a zipped pocket inside and the duck had a cable tie which was hidden inside, which was cut off and tucked in. The back of the toy then velcros up over the top. The stuffing would be almost impossible to get out even with little person tearing at it and is no more accessible than a regular soft toy stuffing.

The soft toys took around 15-20 minutes to stuff and make properly with my two.

This included a fair bit of adult supervision!

The kids were really pleased with the end result.

I can imagine that a Be My Bear building party would go down really well.

They are a really good value DIY birthday party option starting at £67.50 for ten sets. They also sell accessories and clothes so that you can personalise your bear.
