This will either be of interest to you…or not at all.
Sorry to those that don’t give a monkeys, but this is big news to us.
Finally our room is ‘done’ enough to move into!
It’s not done, done… The fitted wardrobes are being built in the last week of November; the carpet and vinyl flooring for the en suite (la di dah, huh?!) laid the week after that.
There will then be little things to do; we need a loo roll and towel holder, and the sink currently has no splashback. We need to get some fabric to cover the headboard and then it will be little things, like moving everything in and putting pictures up to make it more ‘us’.
But here is where we are up to!
Currently we have no curtains (although I have these from John Lewis ready to go up – hopefully tomorrow):
After much deliberation, we decided to keep the colours cool and decorate in a duck-egg type blue and a light grey, keeping the long wall and furniture white. Although I’m a huge fan of cosy spaces, what I wanted from our room was that it would be light and airy. I want to wake up on a spring morning and feel full of joy. I feel that may be a step to far, but you can’t blame a girl for trying!
We have one galley pendant style duck egg lampshade, one bar of spotlights which can be directed into the soon-to-be fitted wardrobe, and these fab bedside lights from Dusk Lighting* which can be switched on and off from switches next to our bed:
They can be positioned in any way which means they are good for reading lights; maybe this will encourage me to do some reading? Maybe. They can also be turned to the opposite side to give a gentler light.
We are currently using them with Philips Hue bulbs which mean they can be turned on and off and dimmed remotely; we also have these (but colour changing ones, no less) downstairs in the new family room and in the garden office.
We kept the blue going into the en suite which is now is fully operational, and wow does having an en suite make a huge difference! We’ve gone from being a one-toilet-household to having three; we are spoiled for choice.
We chose a suite from Roca, and I can’t really say too much about it. It looks nice, seems alright, I dunno. A loo is a loo, right?! As long as it works.
I’m not sure what my favourite thing is; not having to shower over the bath any more…
Or the fact that I’m now the proud owner of one of these brilliant illuminated bathroom cabinets from Lumino*; it was wired in directly so there are no switches; you simply wave your hand underneath the infrared sensor to turn the lights to the side on.
The bathroom light switches on a fairly loud extractor fan, so this has been an absolute godsend. It’s also got a demister pad and an internal shaver socket which is really handy for charging toothbrushes.
I’m really excited to get the furniture and flooring done now, before the kids wreck the joint!
*These were given to me free of charge however I chose the ones to suit our specification and am thrilled with how they look!
