As you’re probably aware, I don’t actually buy clothes for myself very often.
This is because:
a) I am too old for fashion
b) Children’s clothes are much more fun, and cheaper, so I just buy for the kids instead
c) Trying on clothes with children in tow is impossible
d) It’s downright depressing because I have to buy clothes in a size bigger than I wish I was but my willpower is shocking and as soon as I manage to get close to my goal, something like Easter happens and suddenly there’s a load of chocolate in the house and excuses excuses. I’m just fat.
However, it is a close friend’s 50th birthday soon, and we are heading to Paris for a childfree midweek stay (it was supposed to be to see the tennis, which I hate, but thankfully we got the wrong week…), and I thought it would be nice if I had something nice to wear that didn’t make me look like a frumpy mum who buys all her clothes from supermarkets without trying them on first which is the actual truth.
Enter online clothing retailer Celuu, who specialise in clothes for women in sizes 12-22, who kindly offered to send me a new outfit for review.
I selected this outfit; I know to some it may seem a little ‘boring’ compared with some of their range but I chose it because I knew that I would wear it. As much as I love bright colours and bold prints, they tend to sit in my wardrobe year after year whilst I wear my staple colours of black, navy, grey, khaki and stripes. I love a stripe.
It arrive nicely packaged; pretty exciting to get something for myself for a change!
The dress itself is true to size – always a worry when you buy things online, although they do offer free returns it’s still a pain in the bum, and it puts me off ordering online. I’d rather not try it on in a shop and forget to ever return it apparently.
The material is thick and the dress is lined; you can definitely tell the difference in quality between this dress and similar shirt dresses I’ve bought from cheap shops and supermarkets.
I’m definitely NOT a model, I’m thinking of getting a crowdfunder together so I can get my damn roots sorted in time for the trip, and my husband is a the reluctant photographer in the world (hence the very limited evidence that I actually exist beyond the odd wine selfie) so please forgive me; but this is how I would wear this – with a pair of small wedge heels – and I’d brighten it up with a colourful handbag and maybe a big necklace.
